Using hot wax for hair removal on a male face requires careful preparation and technique to ensure effective results while minimizing pain and skin irritation. Here’s what you can expect during your appointment with me:
1. Preparation
- Choosing the Right Wax: I use hard wax for facial waxing.
- Mapping the face: I will then proceed to map your face where we would be removing hair to clean up the beard or moustache etc. If it’s a beard, actually tapering the beard outwards and upwards will give a more chiselled look to the face and give a more youthful appearance as your face will look more lifted.
- Trim the Hair: Ill then ensure the hair that’s in the we’re waxing is around ¼ to ½ inch (6-12mm) for optimal removal, trimming the hair if it’s too long.
- Cleanse the Skin: I will then wash and dry the area to remove oils.
- Apply Pre-Wax Oil: This will be to help protect the skin, especially when using hard wax.
2. Heating the Wax
- Test the Temperature: I’ll then apply a small amount on my wrist first to test the temperature and then proceed onto your wrist to ensure you’re comfortable.
3. Application
- Apply the Wax in the Direction of Hair Growth: I’ll then use a spatula or applicator stick to spread a thin, even layer on one side of the face and remove once hardened and will continue this process till the area has been removed of hair.
- For A Nostril/Ear Wax: I will apply the wax to a spheric kind of spatula, allow the wax to slightly harden and then place slightly inside the nostril until the wax has hardened and then remove and then repeat on the other side.
4. Post-Wax Care
- Remove Residue: Ill then use a post-wax oil to remove leftover wax.
- Soothe the Skin: I’ll then apply a post-wax lotion to calm irritation.
Prerequisites to note before booking:-
- Avoid Sweat & Friction: Stay away from hot showers, workouts, and tight clothing for 24 hours after having a wax
- Exfoliate After 48 Hours: Prevents ingrown hairs by gently scrubbing the skin.
- Surgery: If you’ve had any recent surgeries the service won’t be able to go ahead
- Laser: If you get laser treatment, it’s highly recommended to not wax in between appointments
- Open Cuts / lesions: If you have an open cut or lesion it may be possible to amend the service but I definitely would not be able to wax over it. If uncertain, please contact me to enquire further.
